Alternator wires? 87 4.3l cobra

Am I wrong to assume that the color of wires should match up? ie: purple/red to purple/red? Looking at the schematic it seems that the wires reverse?? Any one know for sure? or could some one check for me? Thanks in advance!!

Hi Earp, on the schematic for my 1988 5.7 OMC 4 Winns, the wire colors swap sides at the splice
right at the alternator. This is the way it is shown on mine, and the alternator works great, John

Thanks John! I still can't wrap my brain around reversing the wire color. Did you get a chance to look at it in the boat?

The wires do in fact change. I don't know why,l but it does work. John
