Alternator Belt

Can anyone tell me the exact belt I need for 4.3 Mercruiser Alternator Belt? It is the two V-Belts and it’s the one for the alternator. I keep shredding them and I am hoping it’s from getting a non marine one from the auto store.

shredding belts has to do with belt alignment, belt tension and pulley surface finish. if you have rust on the pulleys, they will eat belts. if your tension is too low, you will eat belts. if the pulleys are not in line, you will eat belts

there is no difference from a quality belt that comes thru an auto parts store to you or thru a higher prices marine parts packaging house.

What Scott said!! In addition, you may have a bolt or some other piece of metal coming in contact with belt. Look underneath.

816295T with 7 inch water pump pulley 52 1/5 inch, Sierra 15-15490

Search for length and several will come up. Do need to know how wide the belt is so just measure

A bearing getting very worn will cause a pulley to tilt causing rapid wear. NOT all bearings cause noise as they age.

Ayuh,..... As noted above, yer problem is not where yer gettin' yer belts,.....
All of mine are from Napa, with no problems,....

the belt is the older mess ,,,, the new belt various the auto store ...
