While your question was directed at Scott..lemme go ahead and thrown my two coppers in.

Your only removing any gelcoat, dirt, grime or dead glass. Your not grinding off good (old) glass. I said this just now on another thread but its worth mentioning here...That is that when your glass in your new stringers your going to be 'bulking up' the bottom with new glass. So after its all said and done your bottom is gonna be a bit thicker than it was before. No worries man.

I am going to be following this thread very closely. I just bought a 1963 Red Fish with original Evinrude Starflite 75 hp motor. The deck is completely delaminated from the subfloor and stringers. I haven't cut away the old deck to see what I have yet, but your boat looks very similar in construction. When I get enough pictures collected on Photobucket I will be starting my own thread. Subscribed!!
