Alpha one o/d driveshaft pic.......never seen this before?

I have had many alpha drives for 30 years and have never seen this O ring. Got this Alpha dive cheap for a spare. Looks identical to every Alpha drive I have ever had except the Oring near the splines.This is an alpha one drive not a Gen 1 or 2. What am i looking at?? ?? Charlie

Later model Alpha One (not gen 2) drives have this additional o ring on the splined input shaft to aid in keeping grease in the engine coupler as well a serving as a vibration damper

If you've ever used an oem or aftermarket drive install kit (gasket, o rings and large quad ring) you will have noted this o ring as part of the kit. Unused if the shaft isn't machined to accept it

Thanks guys, Yes thats it!!! Sounds like a very good idea so I can still use this drive as a spare.BTW any gasket kit I have purchased for an alpha has had 2 smaller orings and 1 larger one , never a 4th oring. So my first thought was that I had bought a drive that was not al Alpha and that I was not going to be able to use. Feels good to be wrong for once!! Charlie

That kit isn't for an alpha, it is for an older, MC-1 style drive and won't contain the o ring in question

R/MR/Alpha One/Alpha One Gen 2 install kits have the additional o ring and a different gasket with the hole/seal area for the gear lube monitor valve
