Alpha 1 compatability?

I am looking at a used outdrive. Can anyone tell me if an alpha 1 from a 76 sea ray is the same as an alpha 1 from an 86 four winns? Thanks, Mike

The 86 will be an Alpha (1st generation) if it's original. I think the 76 will depend on which engine it is. Here's a chart with Mercruiser drives by years and serial number:
