Aligning Shift Shaft on old ez-shift Merc

I have a Merc 110 I/O with EZ shift leg, my question is, how do I properly align the shift shaft so that when I get the lower unit back on it will actually engage? I am getting tired of taking the leg off and putting it back on!

Maybe I should have read the manual first! Found my problem as it was in the lower unit installation section....who would have thought......:D
