Hey guys having a irratating problem with my merc outboard. Put a new water pump in a while ago because it stopped peeing. Drove it a few times and then the overheat alarm came on. Took it in and they tested it and found the alarm module was bad, they replaced that. Yesterday took it out and at wot it alarmed-shut it down for 30 seconds and started up no alarm. Drove all day yesterday but kept her a 75% throttle or less and worked fine. When I got the module replaced it was the same deal only alarmed at wot. I saw a few posts for this but no one posted their results. Please help it is driving me nuts. By the way I replaced the water pump my self-first time so I thought this could be problem but I had the lower unit pressure and vac tested twice and it passed great, also compression tested the motor and it came back great. The motor is a 94 merc 125.

Re: Alarm 125 Merc

Over heating at just higher RPMs is an indication of a bad poppet valve.
