No, the Mefi 1 and 3 also could control timing based on MAP and TPS

I sent Holley a message seeing about what distributor I could use to make it work. We will see what they say. Affordable also sells Sniper and they say they will pre tune the unit. But they don’t list any cost

Was discussing with my wife and she said if we’re putting this much effort in this boat, it should have EFI to be turn key like the little one is.

Got thinking that Sniper has an additional input or 2. I could probably run an input through the interrupter switch and pull fuel to create the stumble. I have to study the software but it should work I think

I pressed Affordable for more information. They caved and said they are aware that there are TBIs with marine certification, but that they use TBIs that are not certified. Claim they are correct for a 1989 S10. Which is probably true. He said they have an OBD1 port. Hopefully he will confirm they are using GM firmware as that would make it easy. I have an old OTC scanner in storage.

I’m not discounting it just yet. It might be the easiest way. I’d have to get a USCG inspection though, for good measure

I think I’m going to go for Sniper. I’ve discovered that the Delco EST is pre phased with the rotor since it’s fully electronic including advance so if I buy the Holley jumper for the pickup and pass it through a drilled hole in the bottom, it’ll just work. The module would exist as a dummy/ hole filler

Also, the 2 step interrupts the ignition, and it will allow it to be set below 1000 rpm. At least the laptop software lets me. so most likely I can set it to 450rpm or so and triggered with the interrupter switch

I’ve given up on the Sniper. I contacted Holley and they basically said they would offer no support for a non approved distributor ( regardless of the fact the software has a setting ) and they basically said the Sniper couldn’t deal with the Mercruiser shift interrupt. With a system that people often have some sort of issue with. I don’t want to invest in something without any support..

I’m actually going to drop my better 3.0l which I have in another parts boat ( 1988 3.0L ). I bought it on a whim early this spring after I had done the swap. I was putting it off but it’s 4 bolts and some time

Unless you have cash and time to burn , the only upside to fuel injection, in your case is quicker starting . Fuel mileage and top speed will be the same . Everyone I know in the car industry that went with a Sniper have ended up taking them to a tuner $$ to get them to run correctly. Holley will tell you to drive them and they will self " learn " , have yet to see that happen . A well tuned carb takes a few more seconds when cold to start . Once warm or used dailey for that matter , they fire up on the first click of the key .

The self learn is basically fuel trim that goes beyond so it will create a tune eventually. What turned me off from it was Holley basically telling me sorry, a distributor isn’t provided for my engine and that is it. I actually determined that a Delco EST will work with modifications based on it being basically a TBI distributor and the Sniper has a setting to use any magnetic distributor…. My question to them was actually just using the 2 step with the shift interrupter. I can’t verify that works but the software accepted a 450rpm limit on the 2 step

For now. I’ve got the good engine I’m swapping today
