Looking for advice on attempting to change the prop shaft seal on a duo prop.

About three weeks ago I learned how to pull my props and drain the gear oil. The gear oil looked great. Put in new gear oil and did a quick trip with the family to a local island. Total runtime about three hours. When I got back to dry storage, I wanted to check the gear oil level and found very milky oil. Also there was some loss of oil. I pulled my props off, and quickly could see that the milky colored gear oil was collecting on the outer most prop shaft seal.Im guessing this was wear the loss and ingress occurred. . Using a small pic, I reached in and easily extracted the first seal, but the seal that’s deeper in seems a little more challenging to get out. I’ve read about people drilling into it then using a screw to pull it out, but there is the danger of nicking these stainless. Has anyone had any luck with any other techniques on removing the inner seal?
Also, not wanting the milky oil in the gears, I first flushed a bunch of lightweight motor oil thru it, then flush a quart of gear oil thru it. Letting it all drain out over night. Hope this was ok. I realize that I may need to run some gear oil, then change it again soon after once the issue if found. And yes, I will get someone to pressure test it if I can't do it.
NO metal shavings were found on the magnet screw. Is there anything I should be concerned about since I ran it for a few hours with milky oil?

Did the entire seal come out? Meaning the metal part of it

To replace the seals correctly, the outer shaft needs to be removed. The seals should need to be pressed out, they should be very tight

Like alldodge said above there is much more to this than simply replacing the rubber O rings. You will need to remove the bearing carrier which requires a special tool, that is hard to find. Unless you have a shop manual you may need a volvo shop to do this properly.

Your drive is fine after running three hours with milky oil, assuming you use Volvo oil which has additives that maintain lubrication with some water present.

In addition to the above comments, you need to inspect the shaft under the seal for seal wear and grooves. I recently replaced both of my 290 DP drives due to shaft grooves. It was cheaper to buy rebuild drives than to order and install new prop shafts.

Both seals were on the shaft. I just pulled one out to see how hard it might be. The first was easy and gave up on the second. The one that came out was black rubber with a small round spring.
There are a few videos online showing that the second one can be extracted from a duo prop without removing the shaft.
The part that has confused me more is that my main mobile mechanic said he doesn't do work like this because of the possibility of scratching the shaft, and mother mobile mechanic said, "no problem!"
