WHEW!!!! Well after much fiddling and diddling, I FINALLY got this silly little project finished. The job itself was actually pretty easy, but getting all the little bits was sort of a pain. To recap, I decided to add a tell tale/ pee stream to the old '66 20 hp using the method shown in the link below for a 6 hp of similar vintage.

I was able to get all of the pieces at ACE hardware, albeit more trips than I'd care to admit. I eventually found a quick connect, 1/4" OD to 1/8" 90 degree, nylon elbow, but it had very fine threads which took me forever to determine. I eventually discovered it was metric and used an M10 x 1.00 thread count. Because it was so odd, I used a 1/4" diameter bolt of the same thread count to tap the threads into the softer aluminum t-stat housing. I then wrapped the threads of the elbow in teflon tape and installed it, and to my surprise it actually worked and fit snugly!!! I used some 1/8" white plastic hosing that I also got from ACE for about $.20 a foot to install it into the quick connect fitting and through an enlarged stock drain hole in the lower cowling. I also added a small rubber grommet to hold the hose in place and prevent chafing. Once I got all the bit together, the job itself was pretty quick and easy. Just take the time to drill and tap the cover carefully. I used a donor t-stat cover, so I can always replace the stock cover if need be. After I got it all put together I filled my trusty "test tank" (aka trash can), crossed my fingers and started her up and to my surprise out came a healthy stream of water !!!!! IT WORKS! Not only is the "pee stream" itself strong, even in a test tank, but there is still plenty of water coming out or the normal exhaust port, although it doesn't show up in my cell phone pics. It should be even better on the open water. I let it idle for 5-10 min in between torrential downpours here today and all went well. I'll post a further update once I get a chance to run WOT for a while. In the mean time enjoy the pics. I hope they can be of use to others in the future. 10000 thanks to everyone for letting me ask questions. It was a fun, surprisingly easy project that will give me an extra layer of piece of mind while out on the water, and save me from having to crane my neck around to the back of the motor to check that all is well. Thanks again!!!
