Adding a kicker motor

I have a 26 ft regal cabin cruser with a swim deck, I'm looking to I stall a kicker motor, trying to find out what size I can use and what kind of weight the swim deck can hold . Also the best type of bracket for the job. I use my boat in the Atlantic ocean, if that matters lol

Bolt on a fixed Panther 550030 Swim Platform OB bracket and mount a 15 HP on it. That should be adequate for your boat.

Whether the swim platform is capable of that duty, you'll have to contact Regal and ask them.

Thank you for the reply, I will look into picking up the bracket , and I have a older 15 Johnson but in mint condition, maybe I will try that one.

Bolt on the bracket and measure down to the bottom of the boat. You might need a short or long or extra long. The measurement will tell you.

Most kicker brackets are not designed to take the beating you get in the ocean. Most everyone I know has horror stories about their kicker (or bracket) prior to getting rid of them.

A kicker isn't going to cut it when push comes to shove. If you can't plane the boat, leave it at home

Most around there have traded in the kicker for a Towing membership.

I've heard all the bad stories for sure. What I've seen I'd that those guys never heard of using threaded rods ,thru bolting and backer plates. The panther Is simply the best.
My boating Is above and in view of Niagara falls. I do have a towboat membership, but they cant get to me in time. My kicker can get me to anchorable calm waters.
The first Boat I put a kicker on was 1968. It was awful. The 1970 model was usable. The 1985 upgrade is still in use and has stood the test of time. Not the Atlantic, but I challenge you salties
to try lake Erie some time.

Thank you for the reply, but where I live we have no such thing as Towing Membership, on the East coast of Newfoundland, here if you break down your going up on the clifts ,and chances are you will not survive, so my thinking on a kicker motor is to give me a chance to get to safe anchorage. And that is why I asked the question, to see what people think of the idea, and people's ideas on how to go about it.

Just gave away a 22ft Thundercraft pocket cruiser that had brackets to cradle an inflatable flipped up on one side. If the swim platform on that could take an inflatable then yours should be able to also. Bring yur own tow boat!
The swinging kicker bracket on my 22ft Islander Tinny with a 9.9 Electric start saved my butt twice . once in Toronto Harbour when the fuel pump went - no big. Once in a 3-4 ft chop heading into east wind nice day stopped for a swim off the Leslie street spit and the starter went. 3hrs and two stops to get the 10 miles or so from there to launch point at Bluffers Park directly into the wind. Conning the tiller was a stupid chore - very tiring.

Conning the tiller was a stupid chore - very tiring.

Ain't that the truth! My last 6 boats have all had a SS rod connecting the main to the kicker. I simply steer from the helm. The main acts as a rudder and makes for good control.

No, I still have the boat in the shed, going to pull her out tomorrow, I did price the motel and it's $3500.00 tax in, the mount is about $600.00 not a cheep venture
