a true world event

while playing about the other day I watched another show about the tambora volcano eruption of 1815. then I started playing with krakatoa and yellowstone.
the tambora incident was one of the few truly global catastrophes to hit in modern times.
if the same event hit today, and they expect another, the estimate is a 60% reduction in the world food supply. one of the estimates says 100% crop failure for europe and about 50% for north america and south america about 30 %. this study did show that certain areas would actually have better crop yeilds for a year or two. the estimates were based on data taken from all the english ship logs availible from about 1813 to 1817 showing the climatic changes before and after the eruption. an event like that would make current events pale.
it could always get worse .
I still have not finnished the mega tsunamis though.
the last two in alsaka are wild.
one site even has an audio of a fishing boat in the bay hollering for help.
seems occasionally change on earth is sudden and rather violent.

Yup.....It was called the "year of no summer"....The U.S. felt it & so did Europe, BIG TIME!....Has the theory of dinosuars being killed off fron a catostrophic eruption ever been discounted?......You cannot fool with "Mother Nature" or tame her.....We are at the mercy of this planet's "Due Course"....."Mother Earth "will" survive until our sun burns out....Will we?.....JK

Re: a true world event

believe it or not this planet we live on is alive and breathing ,,, we are parasites and we are killing this world ,,, the earth is going to fight back in a very global way in a very short time and we wont be able to keep up ,,, we wont all die out but most will and we will forget and do it all over again to ourselves in a few thousand years

Re: a true world event

I dont belive the earth is capeable of feeling nor fighting.
it is what it is a greater hand than mine started the cration process that will most likly wipe out the human race just as it did the big dinos.
seems through the fossil records there have been several major species die offs.
I was reading about Mt Rainer is Washington state and the casualty estimates of another blow out like several hundred years ago,
someting like 1.5 million in the first 20 minutes. seems some of the past earth events have been big, real big.
google yellowstone caldera.
seems last time it popped it left 6" of ash in missisippi.
when you start looking at some of the natural catastrophic events it makes ya fel a bit small. but even the scientists cant agree on how big is big :)
but the litoya bay thing and a few others make good reading.
I just hope I aint around to see one.
can you imagine a year or two without a summer now? the fammines and deaths would be awe inspiring.
the really really neat ones are the mega tsunamis that have been recorded and studied over the years.
http://armageddononline.tripod.com/tsunamis.htm
this guy is just full o good news :) :) .
bad thing is real science backs it up :( .
I have done some reading on the lituya bay thing. man what a wild wave. surfs up dude.
nice thing is this guy has a whole different take on it.
http://www.drgeorgepc.com/TsunamiMegaEvaluation.html
I like this guy better even though I suspect he is smoking something :) :) .
but sooner or later the big one is comeing, has happened before and will again and most of recorded history will pale. makes for fun reading though.

Carefull rodbolt, reading a lot of that might scare you to death first! ;)
I have heard on the radio that there are parts of yellowstone that are blocked off to the public now because the ground has risen and very hot.

I grew up on the old lava flow from Mt St.Helens and now here in Lakewood I look at Mt.Rainer from the front window on the west side

But then we are also living on a big fault line also. Thats gonna be fun! NOT or as you said: Surfs Up DUDE! :)

Mother Earth is going to continue to do what she always has and those that survive will just have to deal with it.

Thats my take on the whole deal.

And then, there is the possibility of a large asteroid striking NYC, wiping-out the human race, and bringing back the dinosaurs.
Or if you're a Christian, the apolocypse might hit any day.
In either case, I'm personally as ready as i will ever get.

Re: a true world event

12footer
I am with ya.
its not like I am gonna stock up on viennas and hardtack and wait for it, while sometimes I think if its gonna happen may be fun to watch and other times I hope I am long gone. but geological history shows these events do take place periodically and some of them are total environmental and species changing events.
will it be a comet or asteroid strike that not only blankets the sun but shifts the eaths axis or an eruption that alters the topography as yellowstone di a log time ago or what.
I keep looking at the dinosaur fields in montana and the wolly mammoth finds in siberia and only thing I can come up with is whatever happened happened very rapidly and was permmanant. how else would a mammoth be found frozen with undigested grass in its stomach. how else would you find so many preserved and fossilized species of dinosaurs in the same area and strata that show little scattering or bacterial decay. somewhere along the line an event took place that was incredibly rapid and very permanant.
maybe when I retire again I can go back to school for some geology and some anthropology.
both subjects are incredibly interesting.
