I took my boat out this past weekend and the motor is just not running right. Its a 1977 70HP Evinrude. All summer its been running great.
The motor starts easily with the throttle lever but will not idle, it just stalls. When I put it in gear and gun it, it has absolutely no power. When it does eventually get the boat up on plane, its like the motor comes to life and runs normally. When I stop the boat and try to idle, it just dies again. Same thing when I try to take off again after restarting it, no hole shot.
Whats the best place to start? Going to check the plugs/spark and run some seafoam through a fresh tank of gas. Anything else I should check?
