So I was making a new pair of blacksmith tongs this morning and in the middle of the project a buddy stops by and wants to show me a video of a shark he caught.
I said I’m kinda of busy at the moment give me 20 minutes or so. Then he pulls it up and is trying to get me to watch it while I’m hammering out my new tongs. I said this is really not a good time for me man. He got all pissed off and walked out of the shop giving me the finger. Then sends me a text saying I’m an Ahole and I need to make time for friends.
I replied sorry man you just caught me at a bad time and it was pretty clear I had iron in the fire and was in the middle of something that I couldn’t just set down and walk away from.
He calls bullshit and tells me to F off. It’s really bothering me. Was I in the wrong here? I don’t feel like I was but maybe I was.
Need some input.
Thx all

You were not wrong, tphoyt. In general we as a society tend to be self absorbed and in our own little world. Maybe you could have explained it better, but you were not wrong. I have taught my kids to text someone before calling them to make sure it is a good time and if they don't answer the text right away, there is your answer. We all have stuff to do ... be courteous of other people's time!

Agreed. Well said aspeck. I also feel you did no wrong, tphoyt. I find in both business and my personal life to try to adhere to the rule of being respectful of others time. It's the one thing we can never get back. Some just have no respect for other peoples time...now more than ever it seems.

Tell him to work the bellows and give you some help. We will get a beer later and check out the shark. Any dimwit would know you can't stop.

Thanks again all. He still hasn’t responded to me today. I don’t know maybe he had a bad morning. We shall see what tomorrow brings.
No pics at the moment but I’ll try to remember to post one. It’s nothing fancy. I made it several years ago out of crap laying around and it turned out to be a keeper. It’s made from an insulated Chimmney pipe some scrap pipe and fitting parts of an old cloth rack and a cyclone rake.
The only thing I bought was the fire brick for the bed and an adjustable regulator. It has served me well. I keep saying I need to build a nicer one but there really is no reason to yet.

Nobody stops at my home without calling first except my son and my daughter her husband and my grandsons, anyone else will be ignored if I am doing something and they will be reminded that my home is by appointment only.

Nice work!

If he can't respect your time don't respect his.

When I'm working on something I don't stop. I'll talk a little when able. If he can't understand he isn't worth the time or frustration.
