a little advice needed

I have the oppertunity to pick up a 1997 mastercrart with a locked up motor is it worth the time. Iam a experianced diesel and gas mechanic with my own tools and equipment is it worth the time and money even if the motor is blown. he boat sat for so long it locked up. The owner didn't have time to mess with due to relationship problems so now i am poised to pick this thing that looks great minus the running part for 4k only 122 hrs on the boat

if the last thing on this guys mind before he laid up the boat was how much money she is going to get and did not just spray fogging down carb then go for it.but if stored in freezing temps without draining cooling system then it's going to be a short block 2500to 3100$ and thats if you do all the swap over.

which model? mastercrafts are high end tournament inboards, if that's what you're looking at.

To me it seems that you fixing the boat will cost you about 7 k, which includes the purchase price. My guess is that the boat is worth a fair bit more than 7K. If you got the skills and time to put in a new motor, IMO it is a great deal. I would go for it! If you are real lucky you may even be able to free it up, in which case you stole it.

Can't say I can disagree with the consensus here. If the block isn't cracked, fill 'er up with oil to the gills and let it sit and soak, you may just be able to drain the oil down and turn it over again. Cost you a few gallons worth of oil to find out whether the motor is coming out or not.

insted of filling the block with oil i would just dump some light weight oil down the spark plug holes and let it soak for a few days and try turning it over by hand with a long breaker bar. none the less sounds like a good deal.

Use diesel fuel, let it sit a few days and you may get lucky. If you really want to get fancy, use bio-diesel, like a B20 it has better lubricity than regular diesel. Regardless when making the purchase I would also consider the other option that you may end up putting a new engine in it. Even in that scenario, it still sounds like it is worth it.
