The old "black and blue" division sure was hard on coaches this year. Wonder what Detroit's gonna do?

Has there ever been this many vacancies at one time?

Rumors say Parcells may retire in Dallas. Herman Edwards may be in trouble in NY.

I hope he enjoyed his contract extension while he had it.

I think they needed to do it to convince Favre that he should come back.

I know it will never happen, but wouldn't it be cool if the new coach was named Barry Alverez?

Given how the Badgers are playing right now.......Barry would be sweet.

Sherman kept the team playing competively which I admire.......but to me the close games come down to coaching decisions. How many games did we lose that we lost by less than a single score??? Nearly every single one. (Baltimore being a big exception)

Barry! Barry!

Part of the deal is if he gets the job he's got to take the 40 foot corn cob statue (250K) they just put up at the stadium with him.

Re: A day to celebrate.........

well i think sherman is only part of the problem. i dont think a whole bunch of thompson either. especially after he had no answer for the question, if the 4 and 12 record is not the reason what changed since august when you signed coach sherman to a garaunteed 6.4 million dollar two year contract to now? i think us packer fans are gonna have a long drought again. hope it does not last as long as the last one.

Green Bay is notoriously brutal. Some of the "fans" (idiots) hung Dan Devines' dog when things went poorly for him while at Green Bay. It is easy to place blame not so easy to find solutions.

Re: A day to celebrate.........

From Dan Devine's autobiography:

“Rumors circulated that some disgruntled fans or anti-Devine people had shot my dog,” he said in the book. “I honestly don’t believe that was what happened.”

“We weren’t so lucky with another one of our dogs,” Devine continued. “It was only a couple days later, ironically, when the dog wandered over to a nearby farm and began chasing the farmer’s ducks. The farmer, a neighbor who we knew very well, fired a gun at the dog, intending to scare him and get him away from his ducks. Well, the bullet happened to hit the dog and killed him. He had every right to shoot at the dog, and he knew it and I knew it.

“Still, he felt terrible about what happened. I saw him walking toward our house, carrying the dead dog in his arms, crying uncontrollably. He kept saying, ‘I didn’t mean to kill him,’ and I knew that was true. Still more rumors spread, even though it was a total accident, and that night I was down at his house, playing basketball with his kids."

“All those rumors reflected badly on the good people of Green Bay. Most of the people we met were genuine and nice to us…"
The people and fans of Green Bay are some the best people you will meet. Most anyone who has come to Lambeau as a visitor will tell you that.

"Notoriousy brutal" absolutely NOT, unless you believe one story of heresay that has been proven a lie. More evidence here

http://www.classicwisconsin.com/features/dandog.html

BASS MAN BRUCE: Favre I believe said the it would be easier to stay if Sherman did because then he might have to earn a new or slighty different offense. Thats not in any way concretely saying he would certainy leave...........His final decision will probably come after the middle of February. I personaly think he will come back.........so far its been mostly media heresay that caims he will prolly retire.

:emabarrassed:  Thank you setting me straight on that Urban legend. It appears that there are no reliable sources when it comes to the media. As always the truth is relative. Below might be some indication of how misunderstandings get perpetuated.
--------------------------------------------------

BASS MAN BRUCE: Favre I believe said the it would be easier to stay if Sherman did because then he might have to earn a new or slighty different offense. I vote for pony to be the next coach. He has got everything right to date.. :D

I see that the Iowa coach has the inside track. Kurt Fierenz.???

It has been so many years I just can't imagine a fall sunday without Brett, even if it makes the team better. I feel like a drug addict.

Re: A day to celebrate.........

I hate to say this guys... but I have a very good feeling Favre is not going to be around after this season.

A family friend of ours lives in an area of Ashwaubenon called Park Place. Ashwaubenon is a suburb of Green Bay -- in fact, Lambeau actually resided in Ashwaubenon until GB annexed it from us... Interestingly enough, the parking lot is Ashwaubenon Property, but once you step inside the ground of the stadium, you are in Green Bay...

But I digress.

Park Place is an area of Ashwaubenon that has higher-end houses. It just so happens that Bubba Franks is her neigbor across the street from her. He just moved in a little while ago. Coincidence has it that Favre also purchased a house about 1 block away.

He has sold his several million dollar house on the northwest side of Green Bay as well. I guess he's been trying to do this for a while now. The house he has purchased is in an area that will sell very easily, and very quickly.

I think that all adds up to his departure.

Sean
