So far we've rebuilt all carbs, replaced a weak coil, and replaced all spark plugs (with Champion). She starts right up, and runs great at anything over 1,200 RPM but coughs frequently when idling and dies.

Try bumping the choke when it starts to die, if it picks up its the carbs again.
If it bogs down its flooding at idle, the choke solenoid can develop leaks and do that.

It bogged down when I pushed in on the choke. I have tried to look up Choke Solenoid in the manual and on-line, but the only thing I am finding is a starter/solenoid. Is that it?

Thanks!

Thats BUMP the choke, not push and hold, and only bump it if its about to quit. You can also put 2 fingers in each carb throat to see if a carb is clogged at idle.

Its probably called another name, cold start injector or similar.
Push the key in and find the thing that clicks, looks like a plastic cylinder, 3 inches long with a red lever on it. Make sure the lever points toward the other end of the cyl.
If you can't find it in the manual you must be reading too fast.:)

ANyway, its probably not the problem.

I would start troubleshooting the ignition, do a spark gap test , set gap at 716th inch. See what ya get.
