My carbs are from a '96 Johnson 200 (they have a needle valve in the throttle body). What's a good starting point for adjusting these, and do these needles go in to richen or out?

Reason I'm asking this is I'm experiencing lean sneeze on at least a couple of cylinders - I can see an intermittent flash from behind the carbs (inside the intake) just as the engine stumbles.

I had the same issue. Mine was sitting 8 turns out and still sneezed off and on. Come to find out that the idle orifice where one size smaller than stock for whatever reason. Put the "stock" orifices in and they are now set 5-6 turns. So far so good.

Hey daselbee, I think I got it. I finally discovered that after reinstalling everything there was a little bit of binding on the carb linkage and the butterflies weren't quite closing all the way. When I did the link-n-sink I was pushing the butterflies closed and never noticed the problem. I got the binding adjusted out of it and with those Chris Carson reeds it now idles great. I should have some time this weekend to run it in the tank and fine-tune the idle screws. Then maybe for father's day I can take my hot-rod out and see what she can do !!!!

Thanks for the help.
