i have a 1995 50hp johnson. it doesnt do it all the time. it will have no spark on the top cylinder. then after normally about 2 minutes of it idling and the sparkplug will start firing again and the motor will run great. and it is normally a cold start when this happens. have replaced flywheel, coil, plugs, and wires also have had carbs rebuilt. does any body have any ideas.

Possible power pack or timer base. Why did you replace the flywheel ?

becuase the piece that is on the bottom side of it had been removed and jbwelded on in the wrong spot is about a 1/4 of a inch off and was messing up my timing to were it would not idle after i replaced the flywheel and corrected that problem but i still had the no spark on that one cylinder

If you are talking about the center flywheel magnets I can see what you mean. They only go one way and if they are off it really screws up your timing. Read my last post as far as no spark on one cyl.

Try charging your battery to a full charge before you attempt cold start. If you have fire on the missing cyl immediately, then there may be a problem developing with your cables or starter.

Another thing to try is pulling the plugs out and see if that has any effect.

I had a 2001 johnson 50 that gave me intemittent fits...spark, no sprak on one cylinder......you could feel the second culinder kick in...vrooom

found out it was a bad spark plug wire....was shorting.....

same thing happened a few years later and it was a bad plug...

hard to find sometimes...but loved the cheap fixes...

good luck
