Probably gonna open up a can of worms here...........
I currently have a pair of '95 Johnson 175's, powerful but thirsty engines.
Beginning to investigate what I would replace these motors with.
I'm limited to 400HP total and the weight of 4-strokes would be too much, not to mention the cost.
Considering the Yamaha's.........
Not too familiar w/ the Yamahas........HPDI vs OX66's.
Looking for some educated opinions on what might be good used replacements.......

This could/should be interesting.........

It will take a long time to recover money spent with the savings on fuel.-------Also most new / fuel injected motors require dealer support at $100 + / hr.----$400 / motor for annual service on a 4 stroke.---Just saying.

Understood..........not planning on doing anything at the moment. Just in the "what if" mode.
I can work on these myself at the moment.
Not even considering 4S's!

unfortuneatly the days of a 365 pound 2.6 liter v6 powerhouse are over. no matter how big and fancy the new motors are, they can never quite match the mid-range snap of a big 2 stroke!

Gee, I saw a boat with a pair of inline 4 175HP E-Tec motors. Looked pretty snappy to me.

e-TECs are 2 cycle motors.

There seems to be a trend away from the V6 motors to the inline 4 motors. I see lots of Yamaha 150HO il4 engines, recently. I would like to think that they are lighter than V6s, but have never looked it up.

they are pretty light! I was suprised at how they performed, but i think, once again, they are 2.8 liter blocks so no mystery were that oomph comes from, and of course lower gears

What year did Evinrude market an " inline 4 " model 175 HP E-TEC ????-----There seems to be a trend towards V-8 motors for big outboard 4 strokes.-----Yamaha 425 HP for one.---

Racer, The 175HP e-TECs look to be V6 engines. I was fooled by their slim cowling and the fact that e-TEC does make an inline 3 150HP motor.

Well, they should build an inline 4 motor....IMO.

There you go it was a V-6 !!-----Chris 56 I think the Evinrude name in new outboards is done.-----They might do better with another name if they decide to build outboard motors again !!
