Hi, have you tried it since you found out it was flooded? Make sure the little red lever behide the air box on the primer selonoid is in the down position and try moving the throttle lever forward a bit but disengage the shifter (push the button on the throttle box) to disengage from going into gear because you just want to open the butterflies of the carbs a little to let in some air to see if that helps in to start.

You should get in the 40's, I had the same year motor in a 150hp on my 21ft center console fishing boat and I was hitting 39 with around 30 gals of fuel and a water soaked transom. Once you have it propped right and a good tachometer and seeing around 5300-5600 rpms then you are maxing out. Anything higher you will bearing wearing out your motor and too little rpms with too much prop will not be any good either.

I know what you mean, those motors are very strong and once you do your regular maintenance it will last a very long time. Use the recommended spark plugs and XD50 oil and make sure your water pump and thermostats are good. Get an OMC manual for that motor and you will be able to do all the work yourself but make sure it is the original manual.
