93 Johson 150hp fuel issue

Remember, the idle jets, needle and passages are in the throttle bodies. They need to be cleaned as well.
If i take out the idle jets, needles in the throttle bodie will i need to adjust them when reinstalled? Just preparing for pulling them.

Yes, you would need to adjust them. However, on that motor, there should be a cover over the idle needle. You can remove the cover, clean the idle needle and passages and then install the cover, without removing the needles.

Watch this video. Motor is slightly newer (96) and different HP (150) but I believe everything is similar if not exact. It shows the throttle bodies (1/2 way through and the end of the video) and the covers.

It will definitely show you what your up against with the plastic carbs and the tricky seals.

Now hopefully others will watch and tell you what he did wrong....which I'm sure is plenty.

Issue #1 spotted on the first video. If the parts schematic for your model's carb does not show the thick washer/gasket for the needle seat, do NOT put one on it.

The motor is going to starve itself for gas because there isn't any way to get the float level horizontal without seriously messing up the float adjustment more than it should be.

That washer wrongly reduces how much the carb bowl can intake by lowering the needle seat more than it should be.

Items 4 and 9 are the screws for the cover over the idle jets and needle. They do not show the cover or gasket for some reason.

Get a good manual because the calibration pockets also need to be cleaned. Those carbs are not hard to work on. Factory manual ONLY!!!!

I disassemble all carbs big and small, and soak in lacquer thinner for a few hours. Then clean every opening and orifice with soft wire and finish with carb spray, using the plastic nozzle to direct and add more pressure. I leave the jets in place and clean with soaking/soft wire/spray. Removing them can easily do damage. Likewise, I leave most of the linkages in place and soak with the rest.

The throttle bodies for your year and the video year motor have different part numbers so not sure everything will be the same.

Lots of good info either way so good luck to you....hope it all works out.

Thanks everyone that helps a lot. Looks like after watching the videos i need to also get 1 large gaskets for the one side of the throttle body since it need to also come off to get to the idle jet port for cleaning. You are right this gets costly.
