I'm hoping that someone here might be able to help me out. I just got done rebuilding my motor and I have a few minor things left to address before I fire it up for the first time. The question I have is does anyone know how the linkage for the shift interrupt switch actually engages the switch it looks pretty simple but I don't know if I'm overlooking something. I have everything back together and for some reason when I move the linkage in and out of gear it doesn't even come close to engaging the switch. I verified that the switch does work and it's not sticking at all. I have searched for pictures or videos and all I can find looks just like what I have and my Johnson manual doesn't cover anything on it in detail. So if someone has any information on how it actually works or if it can be adjusted I would appreciate the help.

Reach down and hold the prop against the direction it would normally turn.
For instance, if in forward, turn and hold the prop in a counter-clockwise direction. It will stop. Hold it there with some force.

Then as you shift to neutral, you will see the mechanism rise up and engage the switch.

You can do it for reverse too, just hold the prop clockwise against where it stops.

Thank you for the reply. I will try that, it had crossed my mind that it might need to be under load to operate but I wasn't sure.
