Does anyone know the thickness of the hull on a 91 Blue Fin Spectrum 19.5 footer. I've searched all over the net and can't find any infor on these things. I just want to know what I can expect from this boat on Lake Erie. If it is at least 100 thousandth of an inch it will be okay. If it is only 80, it is for sale.

Wish I had a definite answer for you. I do know that Spectrums were real low-end.

Re: 91 Spectrum 1906, hull thickness

actually...the hull thickness isnt as important as whats behind it.....

let me explain....

builders added more hull to areas that had nothing behind them.... so the hull might be allmost half inch thick in the ski locker or the bilge......but under the lifting strakes.....there is only a 1/4 inch......that is because the foam flotation adds much stiffness and anti crush to the weaker hull areas....
this is why dry foam is very important.

under stand........what ever your hull thickness......i highly doubt that it will crack under the heavy sea conditions of the great lakes.
fibreglass is really strong........did i say strong?....what i ment was its hugely strong !
Under 20 feet the chances of you developing a hull crack from seas are extremly rare.

if the seas get so bad that it could crack the hull....you shouldnt be out in it any how.
i would be more worried about capsizing or total swamping before a hull crack or puncture form seas.

cheers

Hey shortboard welcome to iboats.

But quickfish only made 1 post, the start of this thread. It was the also the last time they logged on to iboats and never posted again. It's been over a year, so it's unlikely they still need the info.....

It's best to consider any thread that the original poster (as shown by the [OP] next to their user name) hasn't commented on in 3 months, as a resource like a library book. Read & study them as much as you like, but try to avoid writing in them.

If you need to reach an OP about a question or a comment, you might try using the private message feature (PM) by left clicking their user name & selecting private message from the available choices.

BTW: I think QF was looking for hull thickness, not what grade of alloy was used...

Otherwise, welcome to iboats, look around, there is LOTS of info available...

I have a Spectrum 19 (Pro- Angler)with a merc 90 on her, I'd have to agree that it's a entry level boat compared to my Lund I sold. It was a one owner boat and all my neighbor used it for was salmon on the great lakes. Mostly Lake Michigan, so they will hold up to the GL beatings that can occur. I'd try her out an get a feel for her, mine has very high sides, one of reasons I grabbed her. That and how cheap it was. Have fun with her!
