They do have serial numbers, which your local dealer would be able to decode for you.

the inside roof of the cowling has a date stamped in it april 1993 is that accurate?
obviously the cowling could have been swapped but is that worth anything?

turned out the latest problem was a kinked fuel hose. good times.
