Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

I checked the #'s on the block. Casted or stamped into the block are as follows:
900-817608-01

JBD3C or J8D30

NMSJ144

818982C (which I believe is correct) or 819982C
I think this is the casting # for the block but I can't identify what that # means or any of the other ones for that matter.

This thing has gotten bigger than just carbs. I hope I can figure this out. Right now I'm at a loss as to what I have and what I need.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

OK decision time , you have a few options , First is there anyway you can confirm that the boat ran with that ignition system ?
1. do a mock assembly of the engine , no gaskets , do not torque anything just put all the parts you have on and post pics of each side of the engine and we will have a much better chance of knowing what you need.
2. You need to start calling boat salvage yards and find one that had a sport jet 90 , you look like you are going to need lots of small stuff that is no longer available.
3. I would think you are going to spend around 700-1000 in parts to get this running , more if the ignition system is wrong , If you find a used SJ 90 runner you may want to buy it complete and part out what you have on ebay.
4. the most common mistake is no oil in the gas , if you can find one blown up that has everything and you can buy it for like 250.00 do it and use your block.

Ok, I'll put it together with what I have and post up some pics. It's strange that I can't find any part #'s on the electronics that I have. I would like to find a blown motor like you said in #4 and swap out parts. That would be ideal.
Can it be any sport jet 90 or does it have to be this year etc... I see this motor in other boats (sea ray etc) in other years and I wonder how wide of a range I have to make this work.
Also, other years and boats that use the sport jet 90 have different carbs as well. If I swap everything out of a donor and use my block can I make it work?

Ok, take a look at this link.
http://www.boats.net/parts/search/M...991)/908E91A/ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS/parts.html

Part #30 is the mounting bracket and that is similar to mine.
Part #45 (c d module) looks very similar to mine but I have two of them.
Part #10 (terminal block braket) also looks like what I have.
I also think I have have something like part # 9 ( rectifier)

Also, the parts diagram for a 90 90hp L-drive has the same parts. What the heck is a L-drive?

I did a search by part # for the mounting plate for the electronics. That part # seams to apply to mostly 1991 90hp force motors. Also to 89 90hp. Haven't listed it with a sport jet yet.

I think I should have the title of my thread listed as something else. It's more than carb issues. Maybe someone else has the same motor in their boat and can tell me what it is that they have.

I may be getting closer to figuring out what it is that I have.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

I have sent a PM to somebody who could help here , I am thinking that you have a force ignition system that someone either did or was trying to get to work on that motor . If the crank splines fit the jet drive you have a sport Jet Block , No other motor used the same crank.

Thanks a lot. I've been looking through a parts list for a while this evening and I do not believe it is any sport jet ignition system. So far I'm thinking somewhere between a 89-94 force outboard ignition much like you just were thinking. I haven't been able to pull any part #'s off of any of the parts so far. They just don't have any #'s listed on them.

Is there any place that I can cross ref the casting # etc on the block to determine what year it is etc? I posted the casting #'s on here in a previous post.

Those are Force parts That are on there. They belong there. So you need carbs for a 90's Force any 85hp might work. I need better pics of the intake. To make sure which ones

You need to post pics of the bottom of the crankshaft showing the splines and also the jet drive shaft showing the splines ,I think Jerry is right and your motor may not fit the drive splines on the Jet Drive . Force and Sport Jet engines are identical except for the crank splines .

First, thanks for jumping in. I need all the help I can get.
You said those are force parts. Are you talking about the ignition parts?

Is there any why to determine what year motor etc this is based off of the casting # on the block? I posted that # on a previous post in this thread.

I will take some pictures of the intake today and post them up.

I will take pictures of both splines.
This is definetely a learning experience. Maybe by the end of this we will all know a little more about these boats and what will work and won't work. Help someone else in the future.
Thanks again for the help.

Re: 90 Sport Jet Carb Issues

Thanks , I really want to see the splines , and also as much as i hate to say it you might indeed being a " test subject" but if one of these things does run on a force ignition system , It will open up a new world of options for owners as sport jet parts are much harder to find. I got one right now that needs a discontinued flywheel and am working on an alternate plan to make a non CDM flywheel work !

Usually the motor year and the motor in it are the same.So if the hull is a 92 it's a good bet that the motor is too.J

I don't mind being the test subject. There has to be a way to make this work. I was talking with someone else about this who's worked on boats. He feels like it will work, it's just a matter of talking to someone who knows the force motor etc.
Attached are pictures
The spline with the white around it is a piece of paper slide over it so you can see it clearer.
The motor side is not as clear but if you have trouble seeing it I can take more pictures. I'll take as many as you guys need!

Problem is, I don't know if this is the motor that came with the boat or not. This thing is a heap of fun. :)

OK cool you have the sport jet motor and it will fir the crank , I was concerned that you had a force and the splines would not line up. Back to the next step and mock assemble what you have and post some pics so we can figure out what you need !
