i have a 1990 bayliner capri with a 90 hp outboard motor and i took it in to get it winterized. they called me and said that there was water in the lowerend where there should oil and that there needed to be a gasket kit done on it and that would cost 350 to 400. anything i should ask them or know to look for or even if i could do it myself!

Re: 90 hp force outboard motor

Did my 125 HP lower unit myself. Manual from E-Bay= $28.00. Lower unit seal kit=$45.00. About an hour and a half of my time. No more water leak.

Note: Check the gaskets on the "Fill" and "Vent" screws on the lower unit. It's not uncommon for them to leak. Gaskets are about .50 cents each.

Regardless of which it is, I definitely wouldn't pay $350 - $400.

Ask what seal is leaking.Fill out the profile you might be close to someone who has a pressure tester.
Where is bennet?
It could be just the fill gasket, the drain seal.Something easy.
But 350 is steep.J

Re: 90 hp force outboard motor

You could probbaly do it yourself. But you need a pressure tester. You might not need a complete rebuild.
Without the right tools, your wasting time and $$$.
The drain plug on a lot of Forces leak. Nothing can be done about it.J
