I am new to these motors. I ran the motor in a test tank and it would run long enough to open the thermostat and spit water out the hole. It would not idle in low speed. It acted like a fuel problem. I pumped it up and started it. I then pulled the hose off of the carb nipple and there wasn't any fuel coming out. New fuel lines and cleaned filter before test. Rebuilt carb (it hadn't run for a long time..lots of gunk). Am I correct in the way I checked the fuel pump?

Re: 9.9 hp eninrude fuel pump question.

fuel pump is operated by preasure/suction from crankcase.so low compresion can couse fuel delivery problems, specially at idle
to test fuel pump:
unscreav fuel pump from block, blow in inlet and air should pas to outlet,
blow in outlet and air should not go threw,
also, to test if puel pump is pumping, while motor is working you have to tale out hose from carb inlet,
suply carb from second tank hose directly avoiding fuel pump,
sqiuze bulb to fill up carb,
start motor, and fuel should sputter fuel from unconected hose leading to carb inlet
