I have an older Evinrude, late 60's. It is a 9 1/2 hp. This weekend when I went out fishing the motor started good like normal (2nd pull).. Once I got to my spot I trolled with the minn for couple hours. I noticed some gas in the water (b/c of the oil rainbow look on the water) why did this happen? The tank isn't leaking! Also it took about 20+ pulls to start when I went to leave.. Could the pressure in the gas tank from the heat have pushed fuel through the gas lines and flooded motor?? I opened the cap and you could hear the pressure escape the tank.. Any Idea's?????

What comes to mind is 2 things. 1st, unburned fuel/oil witch is probably the most common. 2nd. Float maybe bypassing. Good luck and post results! Welcome to iboats.

why didnt you have the tank vent open to allow air into it? ( its not the old pressure tank set up?)

How do I figure out if the float is by passing?? Also the tank I have is an old steel tank. I dont see any type of vent on the tank what so ever, unless it is built into the tank cap!?

check out the top secret files , carb rebuilds /float stuff is all there. the vent for your tank should be the screw in the cap. if its not open when running, your motor will create a vacuum in the tank, and starve for fuel. if the sun beats on your tank, with the vent closed, it could make more pressure than should be ...and force fuel past the needle on your float, loosen the cap and try it that way. (ive seen primer bulbs sucked shut because of no venting to the tank, and primer bulbs blown up like tennis balls balls because of no venting......make sure your tank can breath.
