I bit off more than I can chew on this outboard purchase from a neighbor. It's a special motor made for sail boats and pontoons. It's a long shaft and made woth work with a control box. It's a tiller handle, but you twist the handle and nothing happens. There seems to be cables that can be hooked up to make the tiller handle work. It's an electric start, but no start button. It has a short harness that comes out the front with a plug that would connect to the control box. And finally, he took the motor apart to change the water pump and seems to have lost the dirve shaft. SO, I'm looking for a long one piece drive shaft for it and possibly a control box. I just want to get my money out of it. It's got very few hours and my neighbor sold his pontoon boat that he used to fish fresh water lakes in Kentucky, but kept the motor and brought it to Savannah with him. Any help with parts? I bought it for my son, but he can't use a long shaft and he's found something else.

Buy a set of controls for it and sell it. If you don't have the tiller parts it can get expensive

There's a set of cables that will make the tiller work correctly. They go from end of tiller shaft to the controls on side of motor. It's the drive shaft that is the expensive part. Can't go without that. Cables are about 50. Control box with cables I can find for about $100, but the driveshaft is hundreds of dollars. There are lots of places were you can buy the conversion kit to turn a standard tiller handle into what I have, but no kits to revert back to standard tiller control! Guess I thought someone here may have turned a similar tiller handle into a remote control motor and might have saved the parts for the conversion. The motor now has factory cutouts in the lower cowling for the cables to enter. It has kill switch on end of tiller handle, but no place for a starter button, since the motor was factory made to be used with a control box. The 25" long shaft makes it useless for most small boats, but great for a sail boat. Just thought someone here might be interested in the motor, or might have used parts to get me going. I've got $300 invested and hate to ask my neighbor for my money back. He has no mechanical aptitude and doesn't really understand what the problems are with the motor.

It is more than a set of cables. The whole shifting and throttle set up are different for the tiller motor. That drive shaft is expensive because they break a lot.

I'd love to, but can't really find anything that matches what I have. The end of the shaft on the tiller has a wheel with slots for cables to fit in. Then there's nothing between that and the controls on the side of the motor where ther's another wheel for cables to hook up to. Also, I've never seen a tiller handle control like this one. You turn it one way to shift into reverse and accelerate and the other way to shift into forward and accelerate. This motor was factory furnished to a pontoon manufacturer and was from the factory installed with a control box and a steering wheel and cable. It also has a wiring harness coming out of the front with a big 7 pin plug. It is electric start, but doesn't have a start button on the motor anywhere. It was like that from the factory. My understanding is that it was made specifically for sailboats and pontoons. I've attached some pics and videos to show what I"ve got.
