Reading between the lines that Gtron appears to be in very good shape. Garage kept. Origional interior. Lotsa extras. Granted the 470 is not the preferred motor, but I have seen more than a few run ...

Imo $2100 is probably a purty good price for that package. However at the very least I would try to trouble shoot the no-spark issue before signing the check.

I do like this boat because it is so clean. Was wondering what would be a good option for a different engine to do a repower with that i could use the existing outdrive with, or is there any?

I'm not saying you would HAVE to repower it but just that it better be that cheap... like $1200

AFAIK you could use any merc 4 cyl with that drive... 3.0's are common and popular but you could also slap in a 260 and 1.5:1 drive and have a lil rocket ship

3.0 won't have enough power to replace that 3.7. Any "V8" engine will have to have either a custom made cross brace for motor mounts or modified stringers (unless that boat came with a "V8" engine option). Pretty much the same for a 4.3 V6, but the boat may have had that as an option, so the spots on the stringers might be there to mount it up.

But what about the outboard engine part of it? They are getting quite expensive to repair/maintain as well, wouldn't you say? Especially if neglected. And a Force outboard would be something to avoid, just like a 470/3.7 Mercruiser! ;) hehehe

I've completely re-powered outboard powered boats in a matter of an hour or two. (including new wiring harness) Pretty sure you can't do that with an I/O! And as other mentioned, an older outboard is going to be 2 stroke, and fairly simple in construction. Parts are easy to find, and they are extremely easy to work on.

yep I guess it would be a drop in power and you WOULD have to see what mount locations were available in the boat.... My gut is that a V-8 could easily go in but it would take some investigation to be sure.

On the refit thing..... I've pulled a merc 260 in 17 minutes start to finish and replaced it in 30 minutes (no, it doesn't always go that fast) ... wires and cables were generally the same on most mercruisers of the same era

side panels and front seats look to be falling apart... suspect it has been left outside uncovered a LOT... good chance of being rotten... MAYBE

That upholstery is cringe-worthy. Sunbirds were absolute BOTTOM of the line so you'll want to check that one very very carefully for rot (as you would any older boat).
