Re: 87 mercruiser 470 alpha one trim not working
I had the same problem with my 1990 4.3 Liter Mercruiser alpha 1.Trim didn't work after seating for a yr or more.
First thing I did was check the trim pump motor make sure it runs.I ran a 12 volt hot wire to the motor to verify it works.Once I verified that the motor wasn't locked up.I found corrosion on the terminals & silnodes to the pump motor.I unhooked each wire connection one by one & cleaned each connection. After that.I took apart the throutle handle trim switch & trailor switch & cleaned them as well. After that everything worked.I beleive your problem is either motor locked up or bad connection from corrosion on the terminals & silnodes.A test light will help you check things as well.First thing to do is to check to make sure the motor isn't locked up from seating. Is the silnodes clicking? From corrosion to a little mouse chewing on wires can cause many things. No reason for a wiring diagram or to mess with the wires if the trim worked last time you used it.Clean is the answer."Clean".Just,like carl on the movie Sling Blade,"Got any Gas?",Is the battery charged?
