Hello all I’m having a really weird issue with my choke plunger/ orientation on my 1987 bayliner Capri with the Force 85 hp motor, recently I discovered my choke not activating with the key switch so I decided to take it off an clean all the contacts an now when I put it back together the choke plunger only pulls the choke closed about a 1/4 of the way before it fully seats into the Solenoid. The one end is connected to the top carb behind the linkage what am I missing? Do these only pull the butterfly’s part way cause I feel like they should close completely when activated. An pics of your set ups or some insight would be Awsome im tired of having to manually close them to start my bayliner! Thank y’all!

Loosen the 7/16 bolt and activate the switch and move the solenoid till it brings the slide as far as it will go.
The butterflies need to close all the way.

So I’ll try that but what I’ve noticed is the choke solenoid has been adjusted to the point where the metal retaining strap is millimeters from making contact with solenoid post. In other words choke solenoid has been pushed down about as far as it goes an the butterfly’s only close a quarter of the way when plunger is fully bottomed out. I’m at a complete lose cause I know it had to have worked an I’ve scoured the internet for pics of the rod an how it hooks up, I’m dumbfounded!

I’m ganna see if I can flip the strap so the post on the solenoid is under the strap near the half circle cut out. Other then that the solenoid cannot move any further down thus allowing the butterfly to close even more. If I move it the other way that would make the choke butterfly’s not open at all in theory. I need like a picture of the choke setup if anybody out the has one that would be helpful

Does the slide go all the way in when pushed by hand?
Try that and maybe spray cleaner and lube after cleaning?

I believe it does bottom out I’ve cleaned it throughly looked into the hole for maybe an obstruction but appeared clean, Im at a complete lose I have not changed anything, with all honesty the choke has never worked since I’ve owned the boat, so I removed it cleaned it up changed the terminal on the existing green wire because I thought maybe after 30 years it may be corroded, I’m getting off subject but now I’m speculating maybe PO changed it out at one point with the wrong part but to my knowledge that’s probably not the case. I lightly lubed it but still made no difference.

Is the choke rod binding?
Maybe someone's installed it wrong?
