87 85 hp force

I have a1987 85 hp force outboard put new piston ring in it one new piston in it not sure about carb idle adj. on carb .I have a repair manual on it .It said on turn out from seated it will not start if i run it back to seated it will start . when put at white open throttle it what’s to run but it will hesitate an try to quit .take it back down to have throttle it will smooth out and run smooth

Clean the carbs and set the floats at right level.
It should be parallell with the carb body casting edge when turned upside down.
Set the air/fuel mixture screw at 1 1/8 out from lightly seated.
Then you maybe have to fine tune the mixture screw when warmed up.
At last set the idle screw to 700-800 RPM in gear in water.

IF? it won't start at 1 turn out: then it's sucking air somewhere???
Get it started, then spray starting fluid around the intake side of the motor,
around the bases of the carbs, around/under the coils and power packs.
If the spray makes any difference in the way it runs, then it's sucking air.
Most times the port cover gaskets get blown out.

Did you find why you needed to replace that 1 piston ?-----Correct that problem or it night mess up again !

I replaced all of gaskets .I thank water was getting inside of crankcase on ex side the gaskets we’re blown .The piston was broken on the skirt below the rings
