87 350 mag bogs down everytime trim is touched and runs rough!

I am starting to have a problem with my 1987 211 liberator 350mag running rough, but it dosnt do it all the time. But when it is running ok it has a pretty bad bog at about 1500rpm to2500rpm then winds right out to 44-4500rpm. Today while out on lake michigan it was running ok but after about a 25min idle threw the channel and on another lake the bog was on and off threw the full rpm range and just ran like crap! And everytime I touched the trim up or down it would bog down even worse for about 1 second. And I am also starting to notice atleast I believe there is gas leaking into the bildge area and there is a strong gas smell in the bildge (which is what made me head right to the trailer with hatch open and extinguisher ready). What do you guys/gals think I need to start looking at first? Thanks and have a great day!

First, make sure all your battery cables are clean and tight (with regular nuts, not wingnuts) and make sure the batteries are charging. Have the batteries load tested as well.
Low voltage and heavy draw on the electrical system causes your problem.

I did just replace the altranator and I will clean and test the battery, I was thinking about putting a dual battery set up soon because I want to put a newer stereo in it.
