Gotta love that poured in foam! Ugh, so glad I didn't have to deal with that. Good work on the demo. I just finished the deck on mine. My transom is cut and fit but still has to be sealed and installed.

Re: 86 Mariner 210

I need to do some research on here to find out what products work best for sealing the new wood and for securing the 2 pieces together.

Nice! Another Mariner resto:) We've got a few going on now. You are in good company as NB is wrenching on his Mariner now and JimBC's got one too.

Have you considered epoxy resin to seal the wood? It's probably the best way to go. 3M 5200 maybe for adhering the pieces together?

mj

i'm doing the same boat!
mine had alum strips where the plywood had the butt joints.
i'm going to use them again and then am going to steal micks idea.
install one pc. and the before doing the next get some wood like 1x4 and screw it to that under the joint area spliting the board. now there is a nice lip to lay the next down. i plan on coat the pc with resin.

here's the link to micks flooring

(mick remember imitation is the greatest form of flattery)

mj check out my project it's in my signiture

I have those same aluminum strips the extra wood is a good idea I go about 320 lbs so I dont need any weak spots. I have been following all the resto threads I can find looking for ideas.

Re: 86 Mariner 210

J & M, Why not just use some wider peices of aluminum like the ones that came stock in the LL. Say around 4" or so. If you lay them over the sheet foam you wouldn't need the wood. I just hate to see the wood getting buried down there to rot over time. I went back with only 1/2" ply over the foam and the strips and the floor is rock solid. Does your 86 have 3/4" ply like mine does?

Re: 86 Mariner 210

mine has 1/2" I thought about going back with 3/4" but then the kick plates and other brackets will be off by 1/4". I used 1/2" on the floor in my ss so that is what I'll probably use this time as well.

Good work, she's starting to look like a Mariner again.:)

Those noodle manufacturers are going to have good earnings this quarter.

I ordered them from the dollar tree website and had them shipped to the store. It saved me a bundle on shipping. I will admit to using some of the old foam though. I didnt have enough noodles to fill the front so I took some of the old chunks of foam and put it inside 2 of those heavy duty contractor trash bags and sealed it real good. I needed something to give the floor a little support up front where there are no stringers to screw to.
