So I have the new trim motor attached and it came with a new solenoid. Only problem is I cant remember how it was all wired as it was so long ago. MERCURY MARINE 89-96158 is the solenoid with an Arco 6217 motor.
I guess I should have taken better pictures. What a nightmare!

Some Merc PTT systems have only one solenoid. It will be used on the "Up" circuit. So blue from the motor wire goes on one large post. Red wire goes on the other large post. You still have the 3 wire plug wired, right? The blue wire from the female side of the plug, goes to the small terminal of the solenoid.

I have two large posts and two small. I was thinking one is a + side the other is - side but I don’t want to chance burning up everything.

What’s odd is nothing came with any type of wiring diagram and nothing is marked

Yes, one of the small terminals on the solenoid is to be grounded.

Was this different than how the original was wired?

That’s the problem I can’t remember. Probably from a concussion I sustained in an accident so my memory really is terrible at the moment.
