85 hp mercury model 850 year made?

I have a 85 hp mercury outboard model 850 with a engine serial no. of 7083278. can anyone tell me what year this is. thx for the help

Looks like 1977.

It's a Canadian No (starts with 7) After 1978 they were called "Mercury 85" , the 850 was last made in 1978.<br />I would say that 1977 would be very close to the mark

yup 77 same as mine mine is 7200011 gr8 motor you had any problems with yours p.s. they sure like gas lol
