Hi guys
I am back and still having probs, I have a 1979 85HP and it was running very bad at idle, but good at WOT, so I bought two new rebuild kits for the carbs,
OMC parts, I cleaned them soked them in carb cleaner. they were not very bad at all did find a low idle jet cloged, and a hole in the gas line between plug fitting on motor and fuel pump. all fixed now. So put boat in water and it ran like new idle is great then hit throttle and no power to plane it out .I also pulled cover off and it seemed that the top carb one barrell was not flowing gas like the other three, It did run good before the rebuild at WOT as said above. So just used trolling motor
to get some fishing in. then I seen the batt. went dead on the crank batt.
then seen the Rectifier was very hot and stuff melting out of it.I checked it
today and it was like a short in it so I replaced it and now it stayed cool and
seems no short. I have not ran the motor yet sence took the top carb off and went thru it again and changing the rectifier, could the rectifier cause
mt WOT prob? the carb kits came with bowls, and needle seats everything and replaced all. really very simple....

have you checked the spark and compression? it could possibly be one cylinder has no spark or a bad head gasket.

On the OMC's the charging system (rectifier) is separate from the ignition system. Unlikely that the rectfier is any part of your running problems.

compression was fine had the same all 4 cyl, around 105 each....had spark as well. before the carb rebuild it would run good at WOT
