85 AQ125A - 89 AQ131 diferences

are most of the part interchangeable between these? what is the better motor? will a 131 fit a 270 drive? thanks in advance.

Mainly I want to know what parts are interchangeable? exhaust manifold? cooling system? alternator? carb? intake manifold?

i would suggest looking at the parts breakdowns and seeing for yourself. Although the engines are similar, I think you'll find they use many different parts.

aq125a = b21 2.1L
aq131 = b230 2.3L

only thing different externally is the marine circulation pump (water pump for the closed part of the system) and perhaps the distributor.
Manifolds, carb, timing belt, seawater stuff, heat exchanger, should all be the same.

The only way to know for sure is to look up parts yourself for both motors and compare part numbers.

Yes the 131 will mate to a 270.

Just to clarify, I'm pretty sure the heat exchanger is different as well. So the cooling systems are totally different.
