There are hundreds of people on here just like you. They have all had to come to grips with these same facts. In the long run it will be your decision on what to do based on what you finally find. It appears the transom for sure needs to be replaced.

So i went out and shook the motor, and the whole boat moves but the transom itself does not. I then call the guy i bought it from and he told me it had been replaced 2 years ago. so for now im going to let it be.

In doing my restore I too am not doing the transom. I did core drill and found it to be okay. I only replaced 47 inches of the starboard stringer as the rest was okay and the port stringer was okay. I even called the factory and they said that would be fine. I love the advice I get on this forum and there are alot of great guys on here willing to help. However I believe that most of the time thir ways are the "over the top" ways. Their seems to be alot of ways to build a boat. I have spoken to so many people and read so many forums all a bit different. I just figure if I follow the basics ie: Fiberglass resin to catylast ratio, temp., layup, etc. I will be fine. Go with your gut. It wont let you down.

Like I said earlier, it's your boat and you can do whatever you want... but that caca-doody on the transom isn't a good sign.

Even if your PO did do the transom a couple of years ago, I'm sure it wasn't done right... just like your rotting deck that wasn't glassed in. Look at pic #5 with the bilge pump, see the 2 bolts with nyloc nuts coming through the transom? Would you like to take a wild guess as to what that black stuff is below those bolts?... it's rot because those bolts weren't sealed properly.

You don't have to take our word for it though, go ahead and plan to run it "as is" for a couple of years and see what happens.
