Picked up this 1983 Capri 2 months ago with a Volvo AQ125A and AQ270. Having a great time doing a restore. The hull is really sound and after pulling the engine and leg discovered that this boat has a new motor and many new parts (starter, lift motor, fuel pump and more). The reason it was sold was that the drive bellows was leaking and the drive shaft, u-joints and pinion bearing were totally rusted out to the point that the horn on the stern of the bell housing was gone, ripped right out! I got a used bell housing for $50 and ordered new u-joints and some gasket sets.

Good observation! There is some delaminating on the lower part of the transom. Also there was no sealing of any kind on the plywood where the hole for the transom shield is. I plan to remove the layers that have separated and re-glass that with matting and resin. Also I will be adding a plate of 1/2" aluminum around the complete opening to add more strength to the leg bolts rather than just washers. Thanks for the reply.
