83 150 v6 black max

i have a 150 that sometimes when i take it out it will not build up any rpms
after i troll around and fish awhile and maybe start it a few times it will start
running fine. until the next time i take it out. any ideas:

The very first thing to check is a spark gap test using an 7/16 inch gap, test each plug wire/coil to see a bright blue 'snap'.

While the plugs are out take a close look at their condition, are they carboned up, sooty, fouling out?

A compression test will also give you a good idea of the general condition of the motor. At least 100 psi and pretty even on all cyl's.

Trim the motor level and carefully watch down the carb throats while you squeeze the primer bulb, if ANY fuel is leaking into any of the carbs then it is flooding and causing the spark plugs to foul. It is then time to clean and readjust the carbs.
