'81 35hp Evinrude...no water stream

replaced the seals in the lower unit and put a new water pump kit on my 81 Evinrude...now I have no water stream...the water pump was in pretty bad shape and the stream was weak before the repair but it did work...now, no stream...i do have some water coming from the exhaust ports on the upper leg...this wasn't my first water pump job so i'm pretty sure all of that is right...did i miss the upper port with the water tube during reconnect or is something clogged or could it be the thermostat...any help appreciated

i got it going....took the lower unit back off...flushed it out real good with a nippled water hose and made sure the water tube was connected...works good with a strong stream
