80' JOHNSON 90 THROTTLE/GEAR SHIFT INTERNAL PART BROKEN

Started off replacing the ignition switch, and the broken part fell out of the housing. prior to this, the boat had no reverse, and was stiff to get into forwards. i'd like to know what these parts are technically called or where to purchase them so i can replace them. also, seeking info on the installation of these parts. THANKS!

Shift lockout. There's an updated one that won't break. You may have to straighten the metal plate it fits in due to forces applied when it breaks.

several parts sites sell remote control parts....marine engine dot com is one I know of...helps to have your model no...I didn't see a 1980 90 hp. model listed

So, i installed the new part (see part number above) and the fast idle lever wont return to its position. it appears too long, or perhaps its not in correctly. Thanks!
