Well, I've tried draining and flushing the lower unit a couple times hoping something was stuck, but to no avail. I need to replace the seals in the lower since there is some milky colored fluid, thought I'd get some tips for things to look for while I have it pulled off.
Heres the rundown. If I shift into reverse it will stay there until I shut the motor off, shift into neutral and spin the prop a little by hand to free it up, then I can start it and "usually" get into forward gear. It will not go into neutral, it always pops into reverse unless I'm quick on the stick. This occurs with the shift cables disconnected, and manually shifting to reverse, forward, and neutral on the actual shifter itself. The rod seems to be moving up and down at the motor...
To sum things up, there is no neutral, (the motor thinks its in neutral, so it will start), but it fires up in reverse unless I spin the prop back and forth a few times to free it up (it seems still stuck in gear, eventually it spins freely when I do this.) It is a 1978 75hp model. Once it is in gear it runs great, and doesn't make any odd noises or anything.
