Re: '77 Starcraft Kingfisher 16

Got a little more done, had to quit for the day. It must be *105 today with %99 humiditity.

The benches turned out to be mahogany so after a good cleaning and sanding I'm gonna reuse them

SANY2626.jpg

Cut bulkheads out of the foam to fit under the added straps and then just filled each bay with foam

SANY2632.jpg

Three coats of epoxy on the bottom of deck 1/2" BCX secured with pop rivets

SANY2633.jpg

Hopefully more to follow soon, right now it's beer thirty.

Your work looks great:)

Those benches would look super nice with some varnish over them, great score!

They say steady and slow wins the race. Most of the deck is down and sealed, want to get the console fixed up and installed so I can get this thing back on a trailer.

Just a couple of pics of the slow progress

Here is the dash I inlaid a piece of aluminum for the switch panel

SANY2680_zps423f63c5.jpg

Two coats epoxy and four coats polyurethane maybe five more coats and they will be ready

SANY2681_zps89745fd8.jpg

Filled all the holes in the console and turned it blue

Good enough

I think I ended up with 8 coats of polyurethane to get it this smooth

Re: '77 Starcraft Kingfisher 16

This was the original wheel, it is missing the center cap

SANY2703.jpg

Gonna go with this one it has more dish and is a little larger, but, I think it looks better

SANY2701.jpg

The wheel only has one turn to port, one and a half to starboard, I wonder if it has the correct link on it?

SANY2704.jpg

The steering cable is about a foot too short, no wonder they ran it visable all the way back.

SANY2705.jpg

Man that 50 looks huge on there

Re: '77 Starcraft Kingfisher 16

Just a gratuitus pic of finished dash, this was my first attempt at inlaid trim. I think I impressed myself. And from the lack of replies I was the only one I impressed.

SANY2712.jpg

A transom shot of initial wiring, it's finished now and will take a pic tomorrow

SANY2713.jpg

Pulled my sleeker much more sexy glass boat off it's trailer to put the tinny on.

SANY2715.jpg

Then I put the glass boat on this way cool low rider free trailer, makes it look fast sitting so low

SANY2716.jpg

Now everything I own is mobile, and my back is sore, it sucks getting old..............................................

No ejector seat :D Just a horn button to the right, the light in the center is the bilge pump on warning light.

Re: '77 Starcraft Kingfisher 16

Thanks PMC

Here's the bilge pump and float switch, the pump base is screwed to the knee and glued with 5200. The switch is just attached to hull with 5200. All the wiring is going to that terminal strip well above the water.

SANY2719.jpg

Here is a shot of the outboard batt cable extender I had to use because the original cables had no insulation on most of their length.

SANY2720.jpg

Got the starboard end cap on and sealed. The original had no sealer and the water would just run down the gunwale and dump on the transom wood.

Back of the helm

Hmm, I really like the idea of the warning LED. I'm thinking about installing a float switch as well. How is that connected up with the light and all?

Here is a diagram of how its wired. Any time the pump is running the light will illuminate

Re: '77 Starcraft Kingfisher 16

More pics for the boat junkies

I epoxied, painted and stuck this board on with 5200 to mount the main feed circuits.

SANY2733.jpg

Got the port side all put together

SANY2734.jpg

SANY2737.jpg

Should have the wiring done tomorrow, the helm is feed by 8 gauge and protected by a 50 amp manual reset circuit breaker, the bilge pump is unswitched fuse protected feed from batt number 2.

Folks:

Blu_Cs here. I have been a lurker for years on iboats, but am really getting into a big project (a Kingfisher) (actually my second kingfisher- long story) and thought I'd ask for help.

A question I have is, it looks like from this picture that aluminum straps perhaps 2-3 inches wide are slung across the ribs to create a surface to rivet your decking to. I will guess that the purpose is to keep the decking flat regardless of where you put your weight:

~http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn79/wingmanx1/1977 starcraft kingfisher 16/SANY2608.jpg

So my question is: Are these straps standard?

When I removed the rotted floor on mine, there were no such straps (perhaps the floor had been replaced previously?) The plywood appeared to have been riveted to the ribs and the standing aluminum support that runs the length of the centerline of the boat.

If I can, I'll eventually post something on my project: destined to be the ultimate smallmouth boat for northern climes.

Blu_Cs - Welcome aboard. It is best to start a new topic, in the Starcraft forum most likely, than asking questions in an inactive topic. sqbtr hasn't been active in almost a year, so it's doubtful he will reply.
