I have a service manual on the way, but does anyone know from experience if the red plug is wired the same. My cables are too long for the smaller boat I would like to put the 70 on but the plug is the major unknown at the moment.

From 1973 to about 1995 all the red plug controls are wired the same.---------Makes it easy, then they went to newer style plug ins and offered adapter cables.
