Dash is fixed, need to take some pics, but it's all alligned now. A saw-zall actually works fairly well for cutting through an epoxied joint.

I'm at work today, but Wyatt is working on priming the entire interior of the boat! Making progress!

We're using the rusty metal primer after removing the amine blush on the wood & scuffed with 100 grit sand paper.

We're spraying the hard to reach areas, (basically everything except the floor), and we're rolling the primer on the floor. Adding some additive to give the floor some grit but not so much you couldn't be barefoot. After that, we'll give the paint a test patch to see if we like the color. It's a little more green than we were hoping for, but it's the majic khaki color.

I don't know how well the rusty metal primer will work on aluminum, you pretty much have to at least use self etching primer to get coatings to adhere.

oh yeah we ran the full gambit on it...

sand + acid wash + mineral spirits then spray the primer...

Is the primer acid etching like WM was suggesting though? The acid etch eats into the aluminum as it cures to adhere and bond. Regular primers will flake off with whatever paint is coated onto them.

I used a higher end floor coating called kiwi grip on my fierglass boat. Due to a bad tarp and negligence on my part, some winter snow melted in the bilge area. The standing water cased the kiwi grip to bubble up and I was disappointed with the product... Then I realized I used the cheap waxed poly resin so it wasn't the decking product but my short cut poly resin. All of that to say, it might be worth reconsidering the acid etching primer.

lol yeah we got it to bare aluminum, then acid etched it, waited for the vinegar to dry, then sprayed with zinc chromate primer, waited for that to dry, then used a regular primer on top of the self etching primer!

Oregon hit 100+ so we're dying. Or close to it.

Epoxying anything at this point would result in a fire lol. So we haven't worked on the boat in a couple days. Did shot some paint on the console will take pics here momentarily.

Now that we have A/C set up I'll probably get some more soldering done inside... Just need to find a fan to push fumes lol.

Painting coming along! Got new respirators for the activated charcoal to capture isocyanates.



Test patch on the gunnel. Color is Khaki (Majic paint). It looked super weird when it was set, but after it dried they blend together VERY nicely!

While Wyatt's outside I'm slaving away (now inside!) wiring up the panel. Cable management is key! Color coding our wires: Red is "power to device" Black is "ground" Yellow is "Switch/ Gauge background light", and pink is "signal".

Some of the weird ones are like on the ignition switch which is both signal and power, in that case, color going INTO the device is pink, and color going out of device is red.

All connections are crimped, soldered, and heat shrinked.



Paint drying. will need a second coat!



Added some grit (purchased at home depot) to the primer. Rolled the primer down and then dropped the sand on top to let it harden together. The primer grips it well! Will be putting 1 more coat of sprayed on primer, and then 2 top coats.

Got all the parts for seat boxes epoxied last night. Our measurements were off. Sad.

So redesigned the front supports. Who knew making a wooden box was so hard.

Hopefully will have time today to paint the steering dash and the windshield with the grey paint we picked out.

Yeah nothing is ever as simple or easy as one would think when it comes to working inside a boat, nothing is ever square and everything has a ripple effect. For me the worst was trying to create a panel under the consoles from the back panel to the console panel to cover the sides of the boat and have it look nice. I must have sat inside that boat for 5 or 6 hours trying to think of way to get it done.

Alrighty!

Tried to put a tee-nut into the top of a scrap piece of wood. No go. Things pop out immediately. Then we tried putting epoxy in the hole we cut with a 1/2 bit and fiberglass over the top of the t nut. Seems promising, but we let the epoxy sit too long and it bonded the fiberglass to the nut we used to protect the threads of the t-nut. So now we just have it epoxied to the wood.
Will do some destructive test tomorrow and report results.

May attempt 5200 adhesive instead of epoxy in the hole... See if that binds better
