I have recently aquired a 1975 20' Glassply with the Mercruiser 165 engine. This boat has not been in the water for about 20 years and has been several peoples project. No motor installed although it did come with 5 engines in various degrees of corrosion / junk!! Every other system onboard is also inop or corroded solid!
So far I have dissasembled all of the engines and was able to salvage enough parts to build 2. I have one of them completed and am ready to install it after I do some work on the shift cables and various parts aft of the engine.
I have the outdrive removed and dissasembled and am awaiting some new parts for it. The shift / throttle cables, steering, tilt pump are all corroded solid.
Thankfully it is a Merc and parts are everywhere at reasonable prices!!! The boat was free ( thankfully ) and so far I am into this project less than $300 and a couple hundred hrs of work!! I still have a long way to go but thanks to alot of the people on here some of my questions and where to find parts has been of great value!!
I will be using this boat for camping and fishing, all in saltwater in SE Alaska so it is very important that everything is in great shape!!
Thanks again for all of the great posts and advice on here!!
